As we finish up informational texts students are reading psychology and philosophy to analyze and evaluate new ideas.

Sunday, October 29, 2017

Our goals in Reading for the month of October are:

To establish an independent reading practice of 100 pages per week, of a grade-level appropriate fiction book.

To continue using summarizing to create understanding of a text, and to guide us towards further character analysis.

To identify and practice the criteria needed for a thoughtful, evaluative reading response.

See each grade level page for more specific goals, and the texts we're using to get there.

Week of 9/11/17

We begin the year reviewing Narrative Elements, and how they can be used to summarize narratives:

We apply these same elements to creating plot maps, looking for the common sequences that inform narratives of all kinds (poems, short stories, movies, music videos, etc.)

Visit the grade-level pages for more specifics and some curriculum materials.
